Karie Reinertson earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and has exhibited her paintings and illustrations in Washington, DC, San Francisco, CA, and Portland, OR. Prior to SHELTER, she worked for an environmental design non-profit, was a design/build intern and chef for a school in Vermont, and traveled extensively internationally, volunteering for environmental education centers. She is the Design Director and Founder of SHELTER handbags and apparel. Each item is designed and made in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. We offer well-crafted, beautiful, and thoughtful designs that are elegant, rustic, and timeless. SHELTER is part of the SHELTER COLLECTIVE. We are designers and makers, from handbags to homes. Our interests lie at the intersection of art, craft, and design.
Robert Maddox earned his Master of Architecture from the Tulane School of Architecture. Having worked for architectural design firms In New Orleans, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Asheville, he is currently the architectural design principal of SHELTER COLLECTIVE. As a designer and builder he embraces all aspects of the design process. Additionally, Rob can be found teaching a Home Design Build course at The Yestermorrow Design Build School in Vermont each summer.
