SHELTER is a interdisciplinary design studio that work with clients on a variety of projects. Our interests lie at the intersection of art, design, and craft. 

Projects and offerings include interior design, architectural design, and product design. We focus on modern and unique residential, retail, restaurant, hospitality, exhibition, and small dwelling design.   

The studio is located at 178 A Westwood Place, Asheville NC 28806, and is open to the public by appointment only.

Rob Maddox is a Principal Designer at SHELTER and received his Masters of Architecture from the Tulane School of Architecture in New Orleans. Having worked with architectural design firms in New Orleans, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Asheville, he is currently the architectural Principal Designer at SHELTER. As a designer and past builder he embraces all aspects of the design process.

Karie Reinertson is a Principal Designer at SHELTER and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University in Washington, DC.  She has shown her work in San Francisco, CA, Washington, DC, Portland, OR and Asheville, NC. Prior to SHELTER, she worked for an environmental design non-profit in DC and travelled extensively.
